Under the direction of the Industrial Warehouse & Distribution Manager 1 (OTD), the incumbent is responsible to operate heavy truck/tractor with semitrailer equipment in support of OTD and various manufacturing enterprises.Operate a variety of heavy trucks/ tractor including two and three axle units coupled to various sized semi-trailers, doubles, refrigerated trailers, tank trailers, and flat beds. Through the use of a dispatch trip sheet, delivers soiled and clean laundry, metal products, boxed goods, temperature-controlled products (meats, eggs, poultry and milk), raw materials, hazardous and caustic products, bulk liquid, equipment, etc. to and from locations throughout the state. Notifies dispatch of any required deviation, delays, or product counts variances as soon as they are known. Observes all vehicle and highway laws in accordance with California Vehicle code and demonstrates professional driver’s skills and courtesy. Loads and unloads trucks and trailers using loading and handling methods standard in the industry. Responsible for using proper safety methods for lifting and moving large items, such as, furniture so as not to damage the items or do injury to self or others. Ensures that all trucks and trailers assigned to transport are in good mechanical condition and safe running order. Ensures proper equipment servicing including but not limited to: supplying the truck with oil, fuel, and coolants. Makes emergency adjustments to truck and power units including refrigerated trailer units. Performs pre-trip and other periodic safety inspection on a scheduled basis as required by law.
